Aircraft Repossession Protection Under the
Cape Town Convention & its Impact on
Aircraft Leasing; Implications for Policy
and Aviation Regulations
The CRID Executive Programme on Aircraft Repossession Protection Under the Cape Town Convention & its Impact on Aircraft Leasing; Implications for Policy and Aviation Regulations, proposed for 10–14 August 2026 in Lagos, Nigeria, is designed to strengthen the capacity of aviation regulators, legal professionals, policymakers and industry stakeholders in aircraft financing, leasing and asset protection. The programme examines the Cape Town Convention and Aircraft Protocol, with particular emphasis on creditor rights, repossession mechanisms, IDERA, deregistration and export procedures, insolvency, regulatory responsibilities and legislative alignment. Through presentations, case studies, simulations, workshops and group exercises, participants will explore how effective implementation of the Convention can strengthen legal certainty, improve investor and lessor confidence, support access to aviation finance and enhance national regulatory frameworks. The programme comprises ten modules covering aircraft leasing fundamentals, creditor protection, repossession, insolvency, policy reform, economic impact, international best practice and emerging trends in aviation finance.
